ABOUT US

Starting back in the 1920s - 1926 I believe, to be exact – my Great Grandmother opened a number of shops facing the old Coombe hospital. When she died, she left the shops to her children, Bridget (my Grandmother), Alice and Willie.

My Grandmothers end of the business was the fish and the others were left to the fruit and veg and small hardware store. Because of the shops location, facing the old Coombe hospital, a lot of their customers were country folk, up for the birth of their children and the fish shop was always a great attraction to them as fresh sea fish in the Midlands was non existent.

After much persuasion, my Great Grandmother decided to get the train to Mullingar to the local farmers market with five or six boxes of herring (still the favourite of the midlands finest), to see how she would get on. That was in 1932 and today we are still bringing fresh fish to Mullingar.

Egan's have had fish shops from Dublin City and Mullingar Northside to Killester and now further north to the Naul Village and Skerries. I myself am the fourth generation to continue on in the family trade.

Egan's Ocean Fresh is open in Skerries, Tuesday to Saturday, 09.30-18.00. We aim to continue to provide a quality service at an affordable price to all of our customers.

We have many species of fish in stock, most of which is locally sourced such as Dublin Bay prawns from Balbriggan and Skerries, lobster and crab from Loughshinny and fresh fish from Skerries and Howth south to Kilmore quay and north to Kilkeel harbour. We also stock a large selection of pate's, sauces, soups, irish oak smoked salmon, organic hot smoked salmon, trout, mackerel and eel.

Why not stop by to try some of our great fresh fish for yourself and see just why it is that we have been in the fishmonger trade for four generations.
